Christmas has arrived, which means one thing for women’s football fans… the dreaded winter break. While it’s great for players to get some well-earned rest, and for us to thaw out from those freezing weekend kick-offs, it does leave many of us feeling a little lost without the weekly rhythm of the game.

So, we’ve pulled together the best ways to get your women’s football fix over the Christmas break, making sure you don’t feel like you’re missing out. The season will be back before you know it, but until then, here’s everything you can do to fill that football shaped hole.

TV and Film's

There are some brilliant films and TV shows that help scratch that women’s football itch, the kind you can sink into over the break and feel instantly connected again. Here are a few of our favourites.

Bend It Like Beckham

An absolute classic. If you somehow haven’t seen it yet, you’re genuinely missing a key part of the women’s football canon. The film follows Jess, who dreams of playing football despite her family’s expectations, and Jules, who brings her into a women’s team and into a whole new world. It’s iconic, quotable, and still weirdly ahead of its time.

And rumour has it… a sequel might be on the way.

Bend It Like Beckham is available to watch on ITVX, Disney+ and Netflix

Another classic, peak Amanda Bynes, early-era Channing Tatum, and loosely (very loosely) based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. But it’s way more up a Woso fan’s street.

The film follows Viola, whose dream is to play for the iconic North Carolina Tar Heels - that’s right, the same programme that produced stars like Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo, Lotte Wubben-Moy and so many other woso legends. When her own girls’ team gets cut, she disguises herself as her twin brother to play for his school’s boys’ side instead. Chaos, football, accidental romance, iconic one-liners… it’s all in there.

Ted Lasso

A newer addition to the football-culture canon, but one that has everyone talking. Ted Lasso follows an American college football coach who’s unexpectedly hired to manage a Premier League team, despite having zero knowledge of the sport. It’s chaotic, heartwarming, genuinely funny, and packed with football cameos, including Thierry Henry, Ian Wright and Eni Aluko.

There are currently three seasons on Apple TV, and a fourth is on the way, this time with a focus on women’s football… so now is the perfect time to catch up!

Forever

A Swedish coming-of-age story that feels very now in the world of women’s football. It follows Mila and Kia, two teenage best friends and aspiring pro players whose whole lives revolve around the game, until a new, demanding coach, Lollo, arrives at their club. As pressure builds and the environment shifts, the girls slowly begin to drift apart, navigating ambition, identity, and what it really means to grow up inside the sport.

Forever is available to watch on Netflix.
