The meteoric rise of the WSL has brought us packed stadiums, world-class ballers and sleek, modern kits designed specifically for women. But if you want to dial back the clock to the true heritage of clubs, you’ve got to embrace the archive. And by archive, I mean the official club megastore. Lucky for us, clubs have been raiding their own vaults to re-release iconic shirts from the 80s, 90 and noughties. Because women's teams back then wore the exact same templates as the men's senior squads, these official retro drops are mostly listed in unisex or men's sizing. But nothing beats the absolute chaos of a 90s geometric print or a blocky old-school sponsor in a perfect, oversized fit.

We’ve scoured the official club collections to find the absolute best retro re-releases available right now. Check out our top picks below and get ready to add to cart before they sell out!

Chelsea FC

Chelsea’s new PLAY LOUD range digs into the archives to re-release three of the club's most iconic 1990s goalkeeper jerseys. Featuring bold geometric prints and the classic throwback crest, the collection stays completely faithful to the original long-sleeve designs from the peak era of 90s football fashion.

Chelsea 1994 Goalkeeper Shirt | £45

Chelsea 1994 Away Goalkeeper Shirt | £45

West Ham United

Nothing anchors a vintage shirt quite like a legendary sponsor and the West Ham x Dr. Martens era is an all-time elite pairing. Officially re-released by the club, this replica features the iconic claret and blue build topped with that unmistakable, bold doc logo for pure 2000s East London nostalgia.

West Ham United 2000 Home Retro Football Shirt | £39.99

West Ham United 2000 Away Retro Football Shirt | £39.00

2001-03 West Ham Home Shirt | £39.99

Manchester United

While United's official vault has plenty of classic red, the standouts are the non-traditional kits. The sharp-blue and sleek black retro shirts offer a brilliant break from the usual home colours, while the retro-inspired mini dress is built for girls repping their club at the club.

Manchester United 1994-97 Retro Third Shirt Blue | £60

Manchester United Womens 1998/00 Retro Home Dress | £‌60.00

Manchester United Long Sleeve 1993-95 Away Shirt Black | £‌65.00

Liverpool FC

Growing up in a Liverpool household, these official throwback shirts bring back pure nostalgia for me. They are easily my favourites on this entire list, the vintage designs are just too iconic to skip and they bridge the gap between classic matchday memories and modern streetwear perfectly.

LFC Womens Retro 1989-91 Away Shirt | £55

LFC Retro Adults 96/97 Long Sleeve Away Shirt | £60

LFC Mens Home 04-06 Goalkeeper Jersey | £60

Manchester City

I know it’s a bit cheeky that my favourite Man United retro kit is blue and my favourite Man City one is red, but you have to love an away kit in an unexpected colour. There is just something incredibly satisfying about seeing a club stray from their usual home canvas and City's throwback alternate colours hit the brief perfectly. Plus, I absolutely love seeing that classic, old-school City crest back on a shirt.

Manchester City 2001 Away Retro Shirt | £45.00

Manchester City 2000 Home Shirt | £45.00

Manchester City 1989 Away Shirt | £45.00

Arsenal FC

As a Gooner, I can safely say our official retro vault is elite and while I already own both of the short-sleeve versions, I've got my eye on that cotton long-sleeve next. It’s easily the best choice for a more relaxed, easy-going matchday fit when you want that classic club heritage without trying too hard.

Arsenal Retro 88-89 Away Shirt | £60.00

Arsenal Womens Retro 90-92 Home Shirt | £50.00

Arsenal Retro 1970s Long Sleeve Home Shirt | £45.00

That’s all for the official drops, but don’t forget to check out platforms like Vinted, Depop and eBay too. They are absolute goldmines for tracking down these exact styles and you might even snag a rare find printed with one of your favourite retired players on the back.
