22-year-old Spanish left-back Andrea Medina has had an explosive start to her career with Manchester United. The Spanish defender has already netted two goals since signing in July of this year. But who exactly is this rising star and where has she come from? Let’s dive into her footballing journey.

Born May 2004 in Seville, Andrea showed an early interest in football coming through the youth academy at local club Camas before joining Real Betis, where she made her breakthrough in professional football. At just 15, Medina made her senior debut with Real Betis making 55 appearances with them from 2019-2022.

Long before making her mark on the professional stage, Medina played for the Andalusia regional youth team where, at age 10, she met Ornella Vignola and sparked a lifelong friendship. The duo have since shared an extraordinary journey, winning multiple international titles together for Spain, including the U19 Euros and the U20 World Cup in 2022. Remarkably, that parallel path has now brought them both to the Women’s Super League with Vignola signing for Everton in 2025.

Between her time at Betis and her move to Manchester United, Medina cemented her reputation as a top tier left back during a four season stint with Atlético Madrid. Making over 100 total appearances for the capital club and helping them lift the Copa de la Reina in 2023. and notably featured against Man United in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last year, catching the eye of her future team. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing in Madrid. Andrea showed incredible resilience to bounce back after a traumatic head injury following a heavy collision in a Champions League match against Juventus.

Since making her summer move to Manchester United, Andrea Medina has taken the Women’s Super League by storm. Locking down a regular spot in the starting XI, she has proven to be a vital presence down the left side, bringing both defensive stability and an attacking spark to the squad. Anchoring her performances with a 7.51 average match rating, Medina has seamlessly adapted to the physical pace of English football. Mixing a relentless work rate with smart positioning, she has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting full back additions in the WSL.

Her rapid rise has also translated to the senior international stage. Following her strong start in Manchester, Medina earned her long awaited senior debut for Spain on the 10th of October this year, coming off the bench in a 2-0 friendly win over the United States. With her career gaining exciting momentum at both club and country level, it looks like it won't be long before we see her starring on the biggest stages, potentially gearing up for an exciting run with Spain at the 2027 Women's World Cup.
